About Us

During 2017 Tom and I (Steve) became good friends and drinking buddies, sampling all manner of pubs along the south coast as both our partners were regularly away with work. (What could possibly go wrong?)

After a few nights out, some beer festivals and a couple of gigs we really began to desire something that we believed wasn't out there. We felt in limbo between traditional pubs and late night bars. Our passion for craft beer, music and adventure seemed to be missing from the drinking establishments nearby. So we hatched a plan and said to ourselves... "Why don't we make a pub that we'd want to drink in?"

So after a year of business planning, equipment studying and venue finding we were ready to become landlords and convert a vintage clothes shop into our very own little bar. There was the minuscule issue of planning applications, change of use and licensing to overcome but that's a whole other story.

But we have made it and we're proudly a totally independent bar that was built by us and is filled with everything we love from motorcycle parts and surfboards to music, art and instruments. We serve an ever-changing range of epic craft beers on tap from local and national breweries, as well as a broad and diverse range of cans to drink in or takeaway. You'll also be pleased to know that we don't just cater for the craft beer contingent. Our considered range of artisan spirits, quaffable wines and organic prosecco mean The Escapist is here for everyone.
